- Aspects of the Female Experience The female figure or ambiguous fragments--abstracted, altered, and reconstructed to express a complexity of associations.Flower Lips reference women's lips, female energy, and gender politics. Each one is a "snapshot" of a woman's reaction to sexism, injustice, and/or abuse. Together they form an instructive album of responses. With the work, I wish to reveal female beauty and women's strength as well as question the internal and external conditions that nurture women's expression. In this ongoing series I model figures with a naturalistic awareness and integrity despite them being abstracted and altered with distortions of size, form, and structure.Making tubes into figurative forms relates to the idea of feelings going through us. The cardboard tube material dictated a focus on pared down iconic form.
I assume expressive postures on which to base the body language each sculpture would take.
